Is Invisalign the best way to straighten your teeth?

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment designed to straighten teeth without the need for traditional metal braces. It uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners that are virtually invisible and can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, customized aligners to gradually and gently shift teeth into proper alignment. The removable aligners are made of smooth, comfortable plastic that fits over the teeth like a glove.

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign does not require brackets or wires, so it’s more comfortable and less noticeable than other types of orthodontic treatments. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks at a time before being switched out for the next set in the series. As you progress through each set of aligners, your teeth will get closer to the desired final position.

What is Invisalign Made of?

Invisalign consists of a series of clear, custom-made aligners that are made from medical grade plastic. Each aligner is designed and manufactured with advanced computer technology, using 3D imaging software. The aligners are virtually invisible when worn, making them a popular choice for those who wish to straighten their teeth discreetly.

The material used to make Invisalign aligners is known as SmartTrack material. It is an elastic thermoplastic that was developed specifically for the Invisalign system and is FDA-approved for safe use in the mouth. This material allows the aligners to be thin but strong enough to move the teeth into position.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

The answer really depends on the individual patient’s needs and goals. Generally speaking, an average Invisalign case takes around 12 months to complete, though some cases can take as little as 6 months or as long as 24 months. The length of treatment also depends on the severity of the alignment problems being addressed and the patient’s compliance with wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours per day.

Is Invisalign Treatment Painful?

The good news is that Invisalign treatment is generally not painful. Unlike traditional metal braces which can cause discomfort when tightened, Invisalign aligners are designed to fit over your teeth comfortably and apply gentle pressure to move your teeth slowly into place. Most people experience some minor discomfort during the first few days of wearing each new set of aligners as they adjust to the pressure, but this soon subsides.

Will I Have to Wear Invisalign Retainers Forever?

Many people wonder if they will have to wear Invisalign retainers forever. The answer is no you do not need to wear them forever.

Once your treatment is complete, you will need to wear your retainers on a night for the rest of your life, to keep your teeth in the correct position so they do not relapse.
